Stella Palmer Wins Gold in Aust U18 Singles
Day 1 of “The Nationals” in Perth is complete with the first medals determined in the Australian Under 18 Championships.
Congratulations to Stella Palmer who won Gold in the U18 Girls Singles after defeating Tasmania’s Chloe Collins 21-16 in the final. This is a third Australian Under 18 Gold Medal for Stella after winning the Pairs and Fours in last year’s event. Well done to our QLD U18 Girls Fours who won Silver after going down to NSW in the final 7-20.
Tomorrow the Under 18’s will play reverse disciplines: Girls’ Pairs & Triples and Boys Singles & Fours sectional play followed by medal rounds, all medal presentations will follow. Find draws and results HERE
Australian Para Nationals – Sectional play is complete in Men’s Singles and Women’s Pairs. Tony Bonnell and Brett Sellars are through to the semi-finals of the Men’s B5/6 Singles and will play tomorrow morning in opposite halves of the draw. Clive Williams and Cooper Whitestyles have advanced to the quarter finals of the Men’s B7/8 Singles, unfortunately they play each other first up tomorrow morning. Finals of both these events will be held on Monday. Men’s Open and 14 Point Pairs commence at midday tomorrow.
Louise Hoskins and Serena Bonnell won through to the final of the Women’s Open Pairs and will play South Australia in the final on Monday. Annette Goldsworthy and Cheryl Lindfield fell agonisingly close to getting through after losing by 1 shot in their deciding game. Women’s Open Singles commences tomorrow morning. Australian Champion of Champion Singles – Four rounds were played today with three rounds left to play tomorrow. All competitors play each other with the winner being first past the post at the completion of seven rounds. In the men’s event, Glen Pitts finished the day with two wins and one loss after also having a bye, he currently sits third on the ladder behind two players that played all four rounds. In the women’s event, Julia Brownie won two and lost two and sits in fifth on the ladder. Find draws and results HERE
Following these events will be the Australian Senior Sides (Over 60) from 8-11 October, Australian Sides from 13-16 October and the Australian Championships from 17-20 October.
