Millerick steps up for Australia

Queensland’s Bolivia Millerick has been called to step up and join the ranks of the Jackaroos becoming the 85th woman to represent Australia in international competition she teams up Australian skip Lynsey Clarke along with Ellen Ryan and Kelsey Cotrell in the fours of the Gold Coast Multi-Nations at Broadbeach (June 3-7).
Millerick will bolster an already successful Australian team which has been almost unstoppable after a fantastic run in the Trans-Tasman with Australia able to secure 14 out of 14 titles on offer and have also guaranteed themselves two gold and four silver medals at a minimum from the 2017 Gold Coast Multi-Nations at Broadbeach.
Despite having only played the preliminary rounds of four out eight disciplines, the host-nation is assured six medals of the gold or silver variety, given it boasts dual chances in each event.
The top two ladder finishers progress directly to the ultimate medal decider, while the third and fourth spots advance to the bronze medal play-off.
Australia fields GREEN and GOLD teams in each discipline of the seven-nation event, and fortuitously, the two teams will face-off in the gold/silver medal decider of both the men’s triples and women’s fours, after concluding the preliminary rounds in the top two positions.
As such, both gold and silvers will be awarded to Australians, it’s just a matter of whom.
The host-nation will face New Zealand in the golden match of both the women’s singles and men’s pairs, which assures the squad of at least a further two silvers, which it will try to turn into gold.
Australia teams will also compete in the bronze medal play-off matches of the women’s singles and men’s pairs.
The green and gold contingent could potentially secure as many as four gold, two silver and two bronze medals from the first half of the event.
However, the nation will need to wait until Wednesday to learn the colour make-up of their medallions, with play turning to the opposite disciplines tomorrow and all eight finals scheduled for Wednesday.
Given Australia is utilising this event as a selection tool for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, players are able to swap between the disciplines, meaning the exact details of the final matches are yet to be determined, but likely to remain as played in tonight’s seventh round, listed below.
The 2017 Gold Coast Multi-Nations continues tomorrow (Monday) with the first round of the men’s singles and fours, and women’s pairs and triples, in addition to the third round of the para-sport event, which is a GC2018 qualifying event.
