Harder the second time around

Broadbeach makes taking home the flag a second time look easy but the mighty Bulls pay tribute to their challengers. (Pictured left: Broadbeach stand victorious with their well deserved second state division one pennant flag in two years, after a huge weekend of bowls at Bribie Island Bowls Club.)

From the scoreboard, it looked like Broadbeach made light work of the competition in this year’s State Pennant finals to take home their second State Pennant Flag.
However according to third Dee Robertson, who was a shining light for the Bulls, winning a second time is harder.
“Definitely harder to do it again, we had to come from behind a few times, it feels fantastic to win, I was here last year too,” Robertson said.

Skip Julie Keegan said the score 80-33 didn’t reflect the quality of the game.

Skip Chloe Stewart agreed, saying it was the team’s camaraderie which gave them the boost they needed to persist and win, even when they were behind against teams like Marlin Coast yesterday and Bargara in the early stages of this year’s final.

“What made today’s win even more special is the fact that I got to do it with a team I really get along with,” Stewart said.
“I thought Bargara put up a really good fight especially at the beginning as it was a bit nerve racking and the score never really reflects exactly how a team has played, I think we were just a little bit stronger as a team.”
Bagara president and skip Julie McInally said the team enjoyed being part of the competition and enjoyed getting to play such a high level of competition.
“It’s been a great day and we are very proud that we have made the final,” McInally said.

“We have come from a country club and have done ourselves proud to get this far, Broadbeach were a very tough team but they showed great sportsmanship and we really enjoyed playing against them.”
