No flash in the pan

Queensland is showing its mettle in the disabled sections of the Australian Open.

2/21/2012

Queensland proved its dominant showing in the morning session was not a fluke with more wins in the Australian Open disabled sections afternoon rounds.

Lifestream bowler, Gavin Worland, is unbeaten after two matches following his defeat of South Australian Michael Lowrie, 11-8, 9-4.

Worland’s win sets up a top spot decider tomorrow morning against Victorian Ross Brown, who is also undefeated.

Deaf bowler Gail Dellar faced a challenging second round match but managed to edge out NSW’s Toni Rose Robson, 4-7, 16-4, 3-1 and notch her first win of the competition.

Queensland’s Sporting Wheelies representatives played their first round, with mixed results.

Kaytlyn Smith rolled the ACT’s Deahnne McIntyre, 16-1, 7-4.

Bernie Wolland was unlucky in his match, going down in a tiebreak to NSW bowler Geoff Seton.

The youngest member of the disabled squad,  blind bowler Jake Fehlberg, had a slow start but fought his way back into his first Australian Open match against WA’s Andrew Ness.

Fehlberg couldn’t quite gain enough ground though, ultimately going down 3-10, 6-6.

Joy Forster picked up her first win in a see-sawing matchup against NSW’s Sharon Dunk, triumphing 13-1, 1-12, 3-1.

The Sporting Wheelies, men’s blind competition and ladies’ intellectual disability sections have one more round to play this afternoon, while the other divisions have the rest of the day off.
