Queensland's disabled bowlers are giving the Australian Open a massive shakeup, producing some good results in their first round this morning.

Lifestream competitiors, Gavin Worland and Kaye Freeman, had comfortable victories to kick off their respective campaigns.

Worland got up over NSW's Adam Richardson 12-5, 11-3 while Freeman gave South Australian Sandra Hall a bowls lesson, winning 14-1, 16-2.

Deaf bowler Richard Strong also had a big victory, over Tom Robson from NSW, winning 12-1, 7-7.

His female counterpart Gail Dellar, had a tough start to her 2012 Australian Open, going down to Victorian Robyn Larkin by the narrowest of margins, 7-7 8-9.

Blind bowling representative, Joy Forster, was another unlucky Queenslander going down in her opening round to South Australian Kath Murrell.

After losing the first set 3-10, Forster rallied in the second, only to be pipped at the post, eventually beaten 4-5.

The second round begins at 11am Queensland time, with the remainder of the squad set to enter the fray.

Among the Queenslanders in action this afternoon include young blind bowler Jake Fehlberg up against WA's Andrew Ness in his Australian Open debut.
