QLD and NSW are organising for their annual test series to be fiercely contended at Club Kawana in Jan 2017. Queensland’s first inter-state test series of 2017 will be played from January 16-17 at Club Kawana on the Sunshine Coast against fierce rivals New South Wales.

BQ CEO Brett Wilkie said it was wonderful to have a club of the professionalism of Club Kawana on board to host a three-test series of the calibre of the usual QLD V NSW clash.

The QLD test team will be picked and announced after the Division One State Pennant at Bribie Island (Nov 26-27) and will choose 12 men and 12 women to play in three rinks of fours.

The annual test series is usually played in February but possible state reps are alerted that the challenge will run in January in 2017.

Bowls manager Kurt Brown who was in last year’s QLD side said Club Kawana was looking forward to hosting the 2017 inter-state clash between the two sides.

“Club Kawana are honoured to be hosting this prestigious event,” Brown said.

“We are excited to showcase our facilities to some of the best bowlers in the world.”

The schedule is still being finalised but it is expected players will arrive in QLD on Sunday January 15, Tests 1 & 2 will be played on Monday January 16 (afternoon and evening) and Test 3 will be played on Tuesday January 17 in the morning, followed by lunch and presentations before the NSW team flies home.

Club Kawana is located in Wurtulla on the Sunshine Coast and features extensive function facilities including 120 gambling machines, a bistro and was recognised as the best Queensland club in 2011.
