Go Lynsey!

Helensvale’s Lynsey Clarke and Tweed Heads Paul Girdler are through to Australian Indoor semis, after close wins today, Clarke prevailed over Kristy Thatcher, Girdler over Barrie Lester (VIC). Queensland women have had a tough draw sentimentally at this year’s Australian Indoor at Tweed Heads (Aug 24-27).
Australian Jackaroo and fiercely proud Queenslander Lynsey Clarke has been forced to eliminate two great Queensland girls in pursuit of her own maiden Indoor crown, first June Beverley from Coolangatta in her opening round, and today home town favourite Kristy Thatcher from Tweed Heads in a quarter finals tie-break, 5-8, 8-5, 4-0.
Clarke will face Silver Nugget winner Sarah Boddington in tomorrow’s semi final.
In the other women’s semi, defending champ Jamie Lee Worsnop will take on Jackaroo Carla Odgers.
Bowls Australia will live stream all semi final and finals matches tomorrow (Wed) and Thursday.
(Women’s Semi Final 1 scheduled for 9am Wed, Men’s SF 1 at 11am, Women’s SF 2 at 2pm. On Thurs, Men’s SF 2 at 9am, Women’s Final 11am, Men’s Final 2pm.)
In the men’s comp, NZ Blackjack and Tweed Heads bowls coordinator Paul Girdler survived a torrid encounter against Victorian Jackaroo Barrie Lester, going through to the semi by one shot in a tie-break, 10-1, 3-9, 3-2.
(Lester eliminated Girdler’s Tweed Heads club mate Ken Emura in yesterday’s second round.)
In tomorrow’s semi, Girdler will play West Australian Bowler of the Year Tom Mitchell.
The other men’s semi will be played on Thursday, an all-Warilla affair, master Jeremy Henry and apprentice Aaron Teys (who just happens to be reigning Australian Open Men’s Singles champ!)
