Queenslanders in the mix for six Open titles, U18 Singles (2 titles), O60 Pairs (2 titles) and BWD (8 titles). QLD update by Naomi Cescotto
There’s a lot of work to do in the next few days for many Queenslanders wanting to be at Broadbeach and Musgrave Hill (BWD) on finals days later this week.
The television arena at Broadbeach will see action on the final two days (Thurs June 23-Fri June 24).of this mighty international knock out festival of bowls.
Mon June 23
The Men’s Pairs first KNOCK OUT round of 128 will run at various venues (Helensvale, Robina, Paradise Point, Gold Coast Lawn, Burleigh, Tugun, Coolangatta)
There were 108 section winners in the Men’s Pairs with 20 ‘next best’ opportunities to progress.
The Over 60s Men’s Pairs begin sectional play at various Gold Coast venues.
It’s a big day at epicentre Broadbeach as the Women’s Fours KNOCK OUT round of 32 gets underway.
10 of the 32 teams are QLD teams, skipped by Wendy Wilson, Helen Wood-Bradley, Christine Baxter, Ester Regan, Louise Witton, Robyn McAnelly, Bolivia Millerick, Chrissy Pavlov, Dee-Anne Robertson and Lynsey Clarke, with the Rixon girls Rose, Connie and Rebecca to be skipped by New Zealander Ashleigh Jeffcoat.
The Women’s Fours Round of 16 and Quarter Finals will also be held today. (Semis are scheduled for 11.45am Wed June 22 and the Final at 8am Thurs June 23.)

Six Bowler with a Disability Singles events get underway today at various venues (Musgrave Hill, Southport and Helensvale), with QLDers expected to be strong contenders in all categories, Hearing Impaired Mixed, Intellectually Impaired Mixed, Physical Disability Men’s, Physical Disability Women’s, Vision Impaired Men’s, Vision Impaired Women’s Singles.

Tues June 22
The Quarter Finals of the Men’s Singles get underway tomorrow at Broadbeach, with two QLDers in the final eight.
Helensvale Jackaroo Brett Wilkie will play Safuan Said from MCC Kew (VIC) and Broadbeach’s Sean Ingham will definitely be in the eye of the national selectors, up against national coach Steve Glasson showing he can still walk the walk.
Max Jaffray from Tweed Heads, Scott De Jongh Fitzpatrick, and Bruce Bridger from Suburban (Townsville) made it to the final round of 16 but were eliminated by Aaron Wilson VIC (Jaffray), Aron Sherriff NSW (De Jongh Fitzpatrick) and Steve Glasson NSW (Bridger).
The Quarter Finals of the Women’s Singles also get underway tomorrow, set down for 5.30pm at Broadbeach (with not all the Quarter finals spots decided yet due to the wet weather on Sunday June 19).
However the match already set up will see two popular QLDers pitched against each other, Lynsey Clarke (Helensvale) V Emma Brown (Broadbeach)

The Women’s Pairs round of 32, the Over 60s Women’s Pairs sectionals, and Bowler with a Disability Pairs (Vision Impaired and Multi Disability) are also on today.
Wed June 22
The Men’s Fours QUARTER FINALS are today Helensvale, with ONLY ONE QLD team making it to the final eight, skipped by Sam White from Paradise Point (C Mitchell, Braidan Leese, T Makin).
The U18 Boys and Girls Singles sectionals will be held, five sections in the girls comp and 11 in the boys.
Finals days are Thurs June 23 and Fri June 24.
